Rest is often misunderstood. We live in a world that praises hustle, productivity, and always doing more. Somewhere along the way, rest started to feel lazy or unproductive. But the truth is—rest is not weakness. Rest is wisdom. And rest takes faith.
From the very beginning, God modeled rest. He created, and then He rested. Not because He was tired, but because rest was part of the design. Throughout Scripture, we’re reminded to be still, to wait, and to trust. “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Stillness produces a place where God can speak to us. It requires us to trust Him enough to pause, to be still, and know that He is who He says He is, and that He will do what He says He will do.
Rest isn’t just spiritual, it’s physical too. When we rest and slow down, our bodies actually heal. Resting helps repair muscles, lowers stress hormones like cortisol, strengthens the immune system, and recharges our mental energy. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, the part of our body that lowers heart rate and blood pressure. Wow… even science agrees that rest reduces stress.
When we don’t rest, we don’t give the Holy Spirit space to restore us. We keep doing, pushing, striving, often in our own strength. But faith says, “God, I trust You enough to stop.” Faith says, “I don’t have to control everything.” Jesus Himself stepped away from the crowds to pray and be alone (Mark 1:35). If Jesus needed that time, how much more do we?
We can rest, and be still during prayer, quiet time, meditating on God’s Word, a slow walk, or simply sitting in His presence. It’s choosing stillness over striving.
Give yourself permission to rest. Not just because your body needs it, but because your soul needs it. When you rest, you’re not falling behind. You’re realigning, and gaining new perspective and strength. It’s in that “quiet time and stillness” where God can restore what life has drained.
With love & encouragement,
