“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the  power thereof: from such turn away. ~ 2 Timothy 3:1-5

I think we can agree that we have seen all the above increasing almost on a daily basis. I’d like to focus on “lovers of their own selves”.   WIth all the hype on “self”, I think we have taken it a step too far.  Of course God wants us to care for ourselves and take time out for self care, but we can not forget about, “laying our life down for others”.  Boundaries are great and needed, but so is going out of our own way to help someone else.  If someone does us wrong,  we need to forgive them, seven times seventy.  To bear one another’s burdens. (Galatians 6:2) To encourage one another. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)  Do to others as you would have them do to you. (Luke 6:31)  The list goes on and on regarding how we are to treat others.

When we are consumed with ourselves, and are selfish, covetous, proud, unthankful, and heady, we can not walk as Christ desires us to walk.  We can all say, we are Christians, but are we laying down our own will? Our own desires?  Our own opinions? Our own pleasures in order to live the life of a true Christian?

I hear so many times from people about “this generation” and how they are unthankful, entitled and selfish.  But I think it is rampant  in “all generations”.  We must set the example first and strive to be like Christ.  We all can fall into any one of these, but let us not stay there.  “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” ~Romans 12:21

Let us overcome evil with good!
