The Bible is filled with many examples of times when God’s people were confronted with a challenge, or a situation and it causes confusion, doubt or disbelief.   A wonderful example of this is in Luke Chapter 24.  The story of the three women visiting the tomb of Jesus and finding it empty.  The word says …’ And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered , they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus .  While they were wondering about this….” (Luke 24: 2-4)

They are in doubt and disbelief as to why Jesus’s body was missing. In the King James Version it says they were ‘perplexed”   But then something powerful occurred.  “ Then they remembered His words” ( Luke 24:8).  Jesus had already told his disciples what was going to happen.  It had already been spoken and prophesied that Christ would rise from the dead.  Once the three women remembered what Christ had said, their disbelief and doubt disappeared.

In our daily walk with God, I think as believers many times we do forget what His Word says.  This causes us to become confused and frustrated.  A very popular topic in the bible that falls true to this very confusion is the day of Pentecost.  Many people ask “ What is Pentecost?” Others that know the scripture reference have ideas and thoughts surrounding the events that took place that day.  As we look into God’s Word to seek wisdom and understanding, it gives us a better picture of what took place and what it means for us today as Christians.

“ When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in the place.  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit enabled them” ( Acts 2 :1-4)   The Word says that ALL were filled with The Holy Spirit and ALL began to speak in tongues.  Some common opinion regarding Pentecost is that this was just for that moment, or that it isn’t something that God does anymore.   However when we truly REMEMBER what God’s Word says and what was spoken, we see that the power and gift given on the day of Pentecost, is alive and available today to the body of Christ.   The power that was poured out at Pentecost was MIRACULOUS power.  In the Greek the word is Dunamis.  It means “ strength, power or ability”  This is what our Father wants to give to all who believe.  He left us the gift of the Holy Spirit,  It is the one part of the trinity that exists for us to commune with directly.  God and Jesus are in heaven,  The HOLY SPIRIT IS HERE with us now.  It is an abundant, awesome power.  It would only make sense that the gift of receiving the Holy Spirit would be something for all.  Not just for a few chosen select believers.

In Acts 2: 14-17 Peter addresses the crowd “ Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.  These men are not drunk, as you suppose.  It’s only nine in the morning.  No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.  Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams”

Peter uses what was already spoken by Joel and he REMEMBERS what God told them through the prophet.  He knows that the Spirit would be poured out to ALL, because he knows what the scriptures said.  By trusting God’s word and by relying on what was spoken by Christ and by the prophets, Peter is NOT confused.  He is not led astray and there is no unbelief in him.

I encourage you today to Remember what was written about Pentecost and the tremendous power that God has given to you as you receive the Holy Spirit.  Let the Dumanis of The Holy Spirit fill you and draw you closer to Him.
