The Breakup.

Have you had a relationship in your past that you knew deep inside wasn’t healthy?  Was it causing you pain and heartache?  When you told your friends about it, did they say to you “ It’s time to break up.” ?  For some of us we have a very unhealthy relationship with two damaging foes.  They are named Anxiety and Depression.  Almost 10% of all Americans suffer from depression and an estimated 30% experience anxiety at some time in their lives.  While doctors, therapists, medication and supplements are all great solutions to help when you are battling these issues, there is also another strong medicine we can use to end our relationship with them.   God’s word and His promises to you can help you to overcome anxiety and depression.

In John 10:10 it says The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”   All of the feelings that accompany you when you are suffering from depression or anxiety are overwhelming.  In many cases they are debilitating.  They are NOT an example of abundant life.   Nevertheless, the Lord tells us that this is why He has come.  To give us an abundant life. One that is full of joy, and peace.   He comes to restore us.  “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”  Psalm 23:3    When you  trust in God’s Word, it gives you the ability to escape from the bondage.  In order to do so though you must be willing to give everything to Him, and trust Him.

To begin, God wants you to “come to Him”.  We see in Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”  When you go to the Father and cry out to Him for help He becomes your strength.  He already knows all that you are dealing with and is just waiting for you to come to Him.  “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”  Psalm 34: 17-18   Put your trust in the Creator and allow Him to lead you.  Take time in the day to praise God for all the good things in your life.  Put on a heart of thanksgiving as you are in this season of your life.  By taking time to find joy in a few things, it can do wonders for your spirit.

The burden of anxiety and depression is heavy.  It is hard to carry it around everyday.  When you add other things to your life, the load becomes unbearable.  You have to LET GO of any unrepented sin.  All the anger, hatred, bitterness or strife in your life is making the journey overwhelming.  The weight of it all makes moving forward impossible.  There isn’t any room for these things in your life.  They are hindrances and obstacles in your way and they will make your victory almost impossible.   When you deal with the unrepented sin in your life, the load you are carrying will lighten.  Then you can face the breakup head on with nothing in your way.

Lastly, you have to renew your mind.  Many times we find ourselves thinking all the wrong thoughts. As we begin to take captive our thoughts and line them up with the truth of God’s word and what HE says about us, we then become empowered to be what He created us to be. He loves you no matter what you are going through and in spite of all the mistakes you have made.   Romans 12:2 tells us….“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”   You have to fight to renew your mind.  Stand firm on His promises and the blessings that He has given unto you.   Philippians 4:13 says  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”   Use His promised power and rely on God to see you through.  You can make it through the breakup and be free again.  One day at a time,  seeking Christ and speaking His truths.
