The Benefits of Worship

The more you spend time in God’s presence, the more likely you are to find yourself enjoying all the wonderful benefits of Him in your life.  The less time you  spend in His presence, the less likely you are to enjoy all that He has to offer you as a Father who loves to be with His children. One of the most important ways of spending time with the Lord is through worship. It is a primary way of being with Him and experiencing His presence.

When you worship and spend time with your heavenly Father, you open yourself up to receive His divine presence, healing and joy.  You begin to find the deepest kind of happiness, purpose and meaning in your life when there is a strong and intimate connection with Him. Worship opens up that connection and empowers you with His strength, confidence and love.  The blessings that come from being in God’s presence through worship can be overwhelming as He pours himself out on you.

Worship changes your emotional state. You cannot find joy by looking for joy. You find joy by being in an environment of joy.  As a child of God, if you are feeling emotionally off-center and down, it might just be that you are in the wrong place. You can gravitate toward God’s presence to find comfort, peace and joy.  Psalm 42 gives us a great example of this. In a time of great stress and suffering, when he is down and discouraged and feeling hopeless, David finds his hope renewed through praise, for he knows that in God’s presence things would begin to change.  “When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.” Psalm 42 4-5   Rather than searching inside yourself, and focusing on your problems, look up and shift the focus to God.   If you want to experience peace, love and joy. surround yourself with the Father. He is your peace.  He is your love.  He is your joy.

When you are in God’s presence, this is the best place to receive guidance and direction for your life. When Isaiah needed God’s guidance for his life, he received it by taking time alone with the Father.  Getting into His presence and being honest about his own inadequacies.  Isaiah doesn’t go seeking advice from others about what he should do. He goes straight to God. In Isaiah 55:6-9 it is written Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.  For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.  We also see in Revelation 1:10-11,  that John receives his revelation from God when he is in worship (“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day”).

If you are wanting to hear God speak, there is no better place to be than in worship.  His still, small voice is waiting for you to hear Him.  This week, I challenge you to set aside time in your day to worship the Lord, enter into His presence and be still.  Soaking in all of the benefits His presence has to offer, you will find refreshment, you will find peace, you will find everything you need.
