Praying with the King
Part 3
Over the past few weeks we have been discussing the importance and the power of prayer. Jesus laid out a wonderful example for us in Matthew 6: 9-13. He shows us the perfect formula to access this tool that God has given to us. It may sound strange to refer to prayer as a tool, but it is most certainly exactly that. It is the most powerful tool in our box. Imagine trying to build a house with a small little hammer and some tiny nails. It would be very difficult. We may even miss a few times and wind up hitting our fingers, or banging a hole in the walls we are trying to construct. Meanwhile, sitting in our garage is an air pressured nail gun that we never bothered to take out. It would have made the house building much easier and less painful. In much the same way, prayer is the tool that we must take out of the box. Once we begin to use this powerful tool, we quickly see how it begins to make life less painful.
Learning to use our prayer tool correctly is easier when we refer to the users manual; God’s Word. As we continue in Matthew, Jesus instructs us “ *And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:13. There are some very powerful words here spoken by Christ. We know that our lives are filled with temptation. Everyone sins and struggles with different weaknesses. As we spend time with Him, we have to be sure we ask from a pure heart for God to keep us from sin. We need supernatural strength to overcome the temptations put before us. The Lord can speak to our hearts. He can help us find ways to avoid evil situations and to change circumstances. To actually “deliver us from evil” That is POWER!!
As the Word says “….thine is the kingdom, and the POWER and the glory, forever”. The kingdom belongs to God. This means ALL of heaven and ALL of earth. Everything is His. The power that comes with that knowledge is tremendous. God has everything that you need and He wants to give it to you. All you have to do is have faith, use the power of prayer, and ask. When He blesses you, it actually gives Him glory. “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:13. He wants his children to be blessed and happy. Just as a parent supplies their children with what they need, so does our heavenly Father. The troubles of our lives can be so much less if we rely on Him. When we come to the Father in prayer, He is with us and it empowers us. “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:11.
As we face challenges and hardships in our lives, we try to rely on our own strength to overcome them. Rather than complaining about your circumstances, or becoming full of anxiety and fear, get on your knees and use the most powerful tool that you have been given. Follow the instructions of Christ, and spend time with God. HIs desire is to answer your prayers and He wants to do it so that He might be glorified. Give Him Praise, Give Him all the Honour and All the Glory. I encourage you today to believe in the power. As it is written in Matthew 21:22 “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”
