Are you zealous (passionate) to spend time with the Lord, or has your love grown cold, and left you feeling distant?  I believe we all have times in our walk when our fire seems to be dwindling and in need of fresh wind and fuel to keep it going.  We can become religious, just going through the motions without any real desire or heart to know Him or serve Him.

We hear the story many times about the married couple that seem to have lost their connection with each other.  They were so in love, but all the stress, jobs, the to-do list and even the children kept them from having intimate time together.  Instead of sharing their hearts and dreams, they list out the things to be done, the problems with the kids, and basically just complain about “things” to each other.  They lose that “loving feeling” and drift further away from each other.

Jesus warned us of this in regards to our relationship with Him in Revelations, Chapter 2:1-4. “To the angel of the church of Ephesus write: These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:  “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil.  And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.  Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

Jesus saw that they were still “doing” all the “actions”, but He knew that their hearts were far from Him. (Matthew 15:8).  Are you just doing your routine, with no real conviction, or desire?  If so, I want to encourage you to share your “heart”, your true feelings, worries, ambitions, and fears with the Lord.  As you begin to open up to Him, He will fill you with His love, hope and faith.  Jesus continued in Revelation 2:5, giving us instructions to remember where we have fallen and to repent.  Repent for falling into temptation.  Repent for becoming religious and falling away from your relationship with Him.  Repentance is a turning away from.  Stop going through the motions, and return to Him.

I have found that when my zeal isn’t what it used to be, a simple and truthful time of repentance with the Lord always ignites the fire within me. Today, will you take a moment to repent, and return to your first love?  Simply, ask the Lord to forgive you and ask Him to rekindle your desire for Him.  He is faithful and His grace and mercy is new every morning.

He is waiting to ignite the fire within you.

Until Next Time, Remember
