Did you know that you were created by God, and for God?  (Colossians 1:16) God formed you and knew you before you were born, and he made you to have fellowship with Him.  Above everything, God desires a relationship with you and that requires some work on your behalf.  Remember, all successful partnerships take time and effort.

I truly believe that many Christians today are in a one-sided relationship with the Father.  We go to church on Sunday, sing a few praise and worship songs, and barely listen to the sermon, because we are looking at our emails, text messages and posting on social media throughout the service.  And even if we are fully attentive through the Word, we leave and go about our own business, barely thinking about what was said, or how we can put it into practice throughout the week.

Jesus said in ~John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and they follow me.”  Are you listening to what the Father is saying?  Are you following Him, or are you just guessing you’re on the right path?  In order to be led by Him, we must take time to listen to Him.

Maybe you are thinking right now, I have never heard God talk to me, or how am I supposed to hear Him?  Remember, I said it was going to take some work on your part.  God is always speaking; we just don’t listen.  It is so easy to walk into our prayer closets or fill out the prayer request card asking God to do this and that for us, and then just leave it there, walking away and going on our way.  I am not saying, we should not take our requests to Him.  The Word clearly tells us to take our requests before Him, with thanksgiving, and believing He is going to act on our behalf.  But He also wants you to sit with Him.  Take some time-out and just spend a few minutes basking in His presence.  Allow Him time to speak.  It is when we are still, that we can begin to hear His voice.

You say, well how do I know the voice of God, or if He is speaking to me?  God can speak in so many different ways, but first and foremost He will speak to you through His Word.  As you begin to read and meditate on the Word of God, certain scriptures will begin to minister to you.  It will be as if you finally figured out that math equation, where you say, I got it.  Or it will confirm a thought or feeling you had.  The Word is amazing.  It never changes.  It is the same yesterday, today and forever, but it will resonate with YOUR NOW.

I have never heard the audible voice of God; however, He does speak to me all the time.  Through His Word, through His Spirit, through dreams, and yes, even though circumstances and others.  He is limitless.  You just need to take the time to get to know Him and His voice.  Just like if one of your children, or a best friend were to call you, without caller identification, they wouldn’t need to say who they were because you know their voice.  The same is true with the voice of the Father.  The more time you spend with Him, the more you will get to know Him, and you will soon KNOW when He is speaking to YOU.

If you desire to know His voice, I encourage you to begin to read His Word and spend time waiting on the Lord.  He will begin to speak to you.  Maybe he will have you call a friend or give someone a compliment.  When you think the Lord is speaking to you, act on it.  He will always confirm His Word.  When you step out in faith, and do what you believe He said to do, He will let you know, yes that was me.  And yes, you may have a few times that you realize, maybe that wasn’t Him.  But the more times you hear and act, the closer you will be to knowing HIS VOICE.

“The Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.”  ~Isaiah 58:11.

Allow Him to speak to you and guide you this week.
