My personal battle with anxiety left me feeling alone and paralyzed. The enemy tried to make me feel ashamed and insecure. Even those closest to me couldn’t fully understand what I was going through. I felt judged and criticized by other Christians who thought I lacked faith or was doing something wrong. Many times, I found myself asking God, “What is wrong with me?” or “Why do I feel this way?” His gentle response would always be, “You just need to rest.” Even in the darkest moments, I knew that God was with me, and He is there for you, too!
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” ~Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)
If you’re feeling overwhelmed and anxious, I encourage you to take time to rest and trust Him in the moment. Lay your burdens at His feet. Totally surrender to His perfect plan, knowing that He cares for you deeply.
Here are a few simple things I began to do that helped me with anxiety:
- **Start a gratitude journal**: I found that the more I thanked Him, the more joy filled my heart, and the stress began to melt away.
- **When you feel overwhelmed, take five**: Pause whatever you’re doing and simply breathe. Reset your mind.
- **Pray honestly**: Tell God exactly how you feel. Don’t hold back—bring all your fears and worries to Him. Ask Him to calm your fears. (Zephaniah 3:17)
- **Write down your “junk” feelings and discard them**: I started writing out all the feelings that weighed me down—anger, frustration, loneliness—and then I’d rip them up or burn them. Doing this lifted an incredible weight from my shoulders.
- **Clear the clutter**: I decluttered my closets, drawers, garage, and even my calendar. If it wasn’t necessary, I let it go. This freed not only my space but also my mind.
As I put these steps into practice and gave Him my worries, I found the fear begin to diminish and His peace grow inside of me —and you will too.
Today, let all the burdens you’re carrying fall at the foot of the cross. Surrender to Him, and allow His Spirit to fill your heart, mind, and soul.
He is with you.
