Feeling Agitated?

Do you ever feel like your patience is on thin ice?   Does it seem like just about anything makes you want to scream?  More than likely it’s time for you to take a time out.  Are you taking the proper “rest” time each week?  When you don’t allow your mind, body and spirit to rest you can become an open target for the enemy.  Remember, even God himself after working six days, rested on the seventh day.  (Genesis 2:2)

Work, deadlines, kid’s activities, and the dreaded to do list can become overwhelming and exasperating.  It is during the moments when we are tired, stressed out and depleted of patience, that the enemy sneaks in to destroy us.  He works in many ways but just a few of them are sickness, irritability, lies, misunderstandings, and confusion.  When we are tired and weak, we cannot properly analyze situations.  These are the times when we begin to respond to others in an unhealthy way.  Snapping at our spouse, children or even co-workers.  Being hot headed over silly things and speaking things we don’t even necessarily mean.  Remember Proverbs 29:11“A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards”.  When we lack patience and understanding we can act like fools.  I don’t know about you, but I hate acting like a fool.  However, unfortunately, I have found myself doing that exact thing on more than one occasion.

So how do we conquer this anxiety?  How do we keep a contrite spirit and stay calm in stressful situations?  To begin with, we must follow in the steps of Jesus.  Throughout scripture we see that Jesus himself took time out.  He went to be “alone” with the Father.  Are you seeking the Lord daily?  I recommend that you begin your day alone with God every morning before your day begins. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 4:6-7). I guarantee that if you start your morning with the Lord, you will find peace!  You will see God move on your behalf.  What are you anxious about?  What are your fears?  What are your desires?  Be anxious for no thing…but pray instead with thanksgiving in your heart.

It is also extremely important to make sure you are getting some rest.  You were made in God’s image, and if God needed to rest, so do you.  Don’t give the enemy an open door.  Make it a priority to get to bed on time each night and remember to rest on the seventh day.  Take time to enjoy yourself, refuel your spirit and watch the enemy flee.

You were created to thrive, not just survive.  Jesus said, “Come unto me all ye who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”.  (Matthew 11:28)  Draw near to Jesus this week and allow Holy Spirit to give you supernatural rest and peace.

It is in the times of rest that He restores us. Amen.
