The constant busyness and distractions of life have caused many to be filled with anxiety, hopelessness and depression.  How do we overcome and find the peace and joy that God promises?  The concept of “living in the moment” is not just a trendy self-help practice.  As followers of Christ, we are called to embrace the gift of now and live every moment in alignment with His truth and His will.

Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us that we are not to be anxious about anything.  “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”  When you bring those things that you are anxious about to the Lord in prayer, you must  remain  in “belief” that He is going to answer your prayers.  It is when you truly let go and put your trust in what HE says, that you will find His peace.

You may say, yes, I believe, but I am still a hot mess.  I understand.  I can find myself going throughout the day frustrated, filled with anxiety and even anger as I am going about my “doing” and wonder, why?  Why am I feeling this way?  The other day I was walking the dog and getting upset because he was taking his good old time.  He was smelling and looking and checking out this bush and that bush all while I was just wanting to get it over with.  As I stood there getting upset, God spoke to my heart and said, listen and feel.  So, I took a deep breath and began to listen, feel and smell.  I began to “hear” the birds singing, and “felt” the beautiful cool breeze. It was wonderful. I was missing the joy of the morning because I was wanting to get to the next hour.  The next appointment.  The next task.  It’s time to enjoy and experience the present moments and the good things that this life has to offer.

In order to find peace in every moment, we must learn the secret that Paul learned in Philippians 4:11,  “…I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.”  As you begin to take every minute of every day and be content in it, you will find peace.  While you are in a traffic jam AND when things are going great, you must remain content.  Take that deep breath and rejoice, knowing that God is going to cause all things to work together for your good.

Living in the present requires faith, surrender and gratitude. As you embrace the gift of now, may you draw closer to God and live out His purpose with intentionality and joy.

Until next time Remember
